Customer Profile

Vold, Jones & Vold, was established in 1957 by Harry & Ralph Vold and Shorty & Bill Jones. Their first sale consisted of only 17 cows and four pens of hogs. Today they sell over 300,000 head per year.

Located in Ponoka, Alberta, the market is in the midst of a major cattle backgrounding area. The Alberta cattle industry itself has grown to be the fifth largest cattle feeding area in North America. The market draws livestock from three provinces, and attracts buyer from Ontario and the U.S.

The market has constantly modernized to keep abreast of growing competition. Cattle are sold in three rings simultaneously, two of which are side by side. This allows buyers to purchase from each ring, and to put loads together quickly. A printer between the two rings provides instant recaps so they know exactly what they have, without having to leave the ring to go to the office. The MarketMaster sales system manages the rings, the recaps and much more. It is an integral part of VJV's sale day.

"We adopted the MarketMaster Computer System in the summer of 1994. It has helped us to streamline the data processing in our office, allowing us to process increasing volumes with reduced labour. It is a great product, it is cost-effective, and it comes with excellent support. I recommend it!" (Blair Vold)
